Welcome to the Phoenix Games Club

Hello there!

We are a friendly bunch of gamers who get together every Thursday evening at the Black Lion Pub in Plaistow. Whether you are into Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Comedy or just Card and Board Games; the chances are that one of our many members will be either playing or running it, so you can just turn up on the evening and join in the fun!

So feel free to pop along and join us on a Thursday evening, whether you are looking to play or just to have a chat. Our Committee members will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

People who participate in role-playing games ("gamers", they call themselves) are dubbed geeks by, well, nearly everyone else. So it stands to reason that any place in which they choose to hang out must have a ‘live and let live’ atmosphere.

Every Thursday, the Phoenix Games Club meets at the Black Lion, which indeed is a friendly place. The front bar is stark, with bare floorboards and low beams; the back bar is a little more cosy. There’s a beer garden to enjoy on a summer’s day (ignore the looming tower block) and a selection of real ales on tap.

Apparently, this former coaching inn has connections to highwayman Dick Turpin, but is there a pub in the area that doesn’t make such claims?

The Black Lion is also home to the West Ham Boys’ Boxing Club (whose members fortunately don’t give the Phoenix Gamers any trouble).

Babies and children admitted (until 7pm). Function room. Games (fruit machine, quiz machine). Specialities (guest ales). Tables outdoors (10, garden). TVs (satellite).
